Yesterday I didn’t come into work because of Mouse. I suppose I could’ve waited longer to take him to the vet (he’s due for a distemper booster shot in mid- November) but I didn’t. I didn’t “save a sample” of his diarrhea so the vet had to probe him (to no avail). He’s on medicated food, heart worm pills (just to be safe), and antibiotics. The only problem now is he is refusing to eat his new food- which I have ground up his antis in. He’s missed 2 doses because he won’t eat it. It looks like vomit but, according to Gael, it smells like chicken and fish. I wouldn’t know so I’m trusting him.
In other news, my grandma is signing a contract today on an apartment in a 55+ community in Warrenton, Virginia (near my parents’ house). If it goes through and she’s able to sell her house at the same time I’m going to have to move. While I knew this day would come, I didn’t think it would be for another few years. This kind of messes with my plans to quit working full time and go part time while going from part time at school to full time. I have several options available to me, though:
- Move in with my parents [I would never do this because, while I love my parents dearly, I could never live with them. Plus Warrenton is about 45 minutes southwest of where I live now. Traffic is horrendous.]
- Get an apartment. The best one I found so far is for $450USD a month. This would include water, electricity and gas. No pets allowed. About 5 minutes from Gael’s house.
- Move to Richmond. I’m hoping to transfer to VCU anyways so this seems rather logical.
- Move in with Gael. This all depends on his dad. Why is that? Well, Gael’s dad moved into my (”ex-”) aunt’s house when they got married. (She’s my “ex- aunt” because she’s my mother’s brother’s ex- wife. They got divorced over 10 years ago, I believe.) Anyways, Gael is staying at his dad’s house and fixing it up for him to get ready to sell. Since he owns the house it’s only logical (and respectful) to ask his permission for me to move in. I’ve told Gael to tell him I could afford to pay him some rent if he’d like so hopefully that will lead him towards a “yes.” I mean, we’re planning on moving in together once he sells the house anyways so I don’t see what the big deal would be. Also, I practically live there now anyways. I’m there constantly and for the past week Mouse was at his house and so was I.
I’m rooting for option number 4 but I’d be down with number 2 as well. RVA is kind of far so I don’t know how I feel about that. The only problem with option 2 is Mouse couldn’t move with me. He could live at Gael’s until the house is sold and we get a place (together we could afford a place that takes animals) but his cats really harass Mouse and consequently he spent the bulk of the last week under the bed.
Aside from completely hating my job and 99% of the people here, things are going nicely.

Pops chiming in. Option 2, option2!! Everyone at work says that $450/month with all that included is quite awesome.
well hello daddio. the 1 problem with this is it’s a slightly ghetto area of … near where gael lives. it’s not as bad as the REALLY bad parts, but it’s not that great either. oh decisions! we’ll see what grandma has to say about when she’s moving, i guess.
Comment by Fatty Daddy 10 October 2007 @ 9.28 amps: haha, fatty daddy. i’m 4 years old again! :D
I hope Mouse warms up to his new food so he can get better! GAH, cats are so picky. :(
Wow, 450$!? That’s a pretty damn good price! How far from DC is that? If the Gael thing is possible that would be super peachy though. Maybe the Richmond thing would be a good option if that falls through (though I hope it doesn’t! Fingers crossed.) I’m just thinking about cost of living & this DC Metro area is so insanely expensive.
i knoooow. he really is. he’ll just look at it and then look at me like, “you are CRAZY if you think i’m eating that. funny joke. now where’s my food?” x_x
Comment by Jen 10 October 2007 @ 10.19 amyeah it really is! it’s about… i have no idea how far from DC. from my work it’s about 1hr/ 45 mins depending on traffic (will have to take 95 north in the morning. bleh!) yeah, moving in with gael is my 1st choice. i really hope it works out. i mean, saying no will only delay the inevitable! lol, i feel like such a teenager. >_<
yeah, rva would be a LOT cheaper than here. the only thing is finding a job. i’m not sure how easy it is to find a job there.
gawd, it is really insanely expensive! the next cheapest place up from the 450$ is 650$. what a jump!
Option 2 is a great deal and I’m sure you could smuggle mouse in if necessary.
I want a Zack Morris cellphone.
yeah it really is. & even if i can’t, his dad doesn’t have a problem with the cat staying there. i suppose i wouldn’t either- it’s just that you know how i like to live with my cat. i might end up spending just as much time at gael’s house as i am now. ughhh.
Comment by mm 10 October 2007 @ 11.01 amhaha, that shit was HUGE. like circa 1991 huge.
i hate having to deal with moving and everything involved with it. it gives me the chills. sounds like you’ve got a pretty good handle on what’s going on. options 2 and 4 both sound pretty good.
yeah, i have so much crap too so it’s gonna be such a pain to move anywhere i go. bleh. x_x
Comment by minijonb 10 October 2007 @ 1.27 pmyeah, i’m aiming for one of those myself. :)
Awww bad luck! As much as I love cats… I say “lose the cat and go live on your own!”. I guess I’m not a big supporter of the whole “moving in with the boyfriend” thing. I just think relationships are so unpredictable that you shouldn’t risk too much with them.
Plus, I had an uncle and aunt who were dog lovers and when it was time for them to choose a house… they had 2 options: great/cheap/city house where dogs weren’t allowed… or bad/rotten/expensive/middle-of-nowhere house where dogs would run free with the chicken. They chose option 2. Now they lead a crappy life, away from everything and everyone… but with their dogs.
xD was I any help?
yeah well if it comes down to me having to give mouse to a different home, i will. i wouldn’t stop my life for my cat as much as i ♥ him. :(
Comment by algelic 10 October 2007 @ 6.23 pmto some people their animals are more important than other people. i’m kind of the same way. i’m one of those crazies that if it came between choosing the life of one of my animals over a human, i’d more than likely chose my animal. unless it was someone i really cared about like a family member, gael, etc.
That’s the second time today I’ve heard/read someone mention a “Zack Morris cell phone.” Strange.
And to contribute to your actual post, I agree $450 is a steal, ghetto or no. If this is still in VA, just spend some extra money for a firearm, and boom, problem solved.
haha sweet. zack morris was awesome. he was my hero when i was a kid. him and luke skywalker. :D
Comment by Across the River 10 October 2007 @ 9.27 pmyeah it’s in va. haha i don’t know about a firearm but i do known a switchblade knife. that might help. and a baseball bat. :D
luckily i don’t really own anything of value so if someone broke in they’d be sorely disappointed at not finding anything nice.
When will you find out from his dad if it’s possible? Just be careful cos although things feel great now between you two things can go pretty shitty very quickly. I hope it all works out how you want it to :D
But don’t you dare get rid of Mouse! How can anyone with a heart seriously say get rid of the cat so you can have a cheaper place to live? No way! I have my Sweepie and she’s coming with me when I move out – even if that means waiting for just the right place for her and for us. My two cats are staying at home only cos where my parents live is ideal for cats – I’ll be back to see them every week as well.
well, he was going to talk to his dad last night but he didn’t get off work until almost 12am. so i’m guessing this weekend. yeah, i know. i’m not placing too much on it and apartment hunting hardcore. i do want to live with him, but i wanted to wait a few more months before we made that jump. but, if it’s the right time it’s the right time! we’ll have to see. :)
Comment by Ys 12 October 2007 @ 8.07 amhaha well i hope i don’t have to. i mean, with the way he’s acting (he hasn’t eaten anything since monday night) i just don’t know. what with the amount i have to work and going to school it’s not fair of me to try to keep him. if i move in with gael i’m sure i will just because there will almost always be someone home to give him the mass amounts of attention that he requires. also, he’s indoor- outdoor. if i try to make him solely indoor he’s going to throw a fit and destroy everything i own. x_x
Aw, that sucks about the housing situation. Hopefully you’ll be able to move in with Gael since that’s the best option.
Poor Mouse, I hope he feels better soon. ^______^ If he’s hungry enough hopefully he’ll eat it. Cats are very picky little pets mine won’t eat any other food except for Meow Mix Original, hehe~
unfortunately mouse hasn’t eaten a full meal in a few weeks. the other day he mostly finished a bowl of food (over a span of 2 days). cats really are picky.
