Who wants to be a slave to money? Raise your hand! Who wants to spend the rest of their life in debt & always owing money to someone or something? Raise your hand!
What, no one? Then you know how I feel.
Lately, as all this crap goes on with the economy, I feel it pressing at the back of my head. It makes me feel disgusted with everything. It makes me disgusted with the rampant materialism that binds everyone and everything together.
I mean think about it. Why do you work? Money. How do you know most of the people you know? Chances are, work! And how did you get your job? Chances are, by going to uni. How’d you get to go to uni? Money!
I think it’s a tragedy that people should have to pay for so much. I love learning but I honestly don’t want to have to owe someone thousands upon thousands of dollars just so they can test me and give me a piece of paper saying I “know” stuff.
Think you hate the way money rules society & the world, too? Would you give up all your material goods? Would you stop buying all the random stuff you currently buy to pay off your debt? Would you cancel your cable service and get slower internet to make your bills less hefty?
It’s a personal goal of mine to skim down my material goods. They’re all crap, you know. In the end, they’re worth nothing to you. You can’t take them with you when you die- why are they so important?
I think there’s a big difference between being comfortable and living with disgusting amounts of stuff.
I know, I know. You’re rolling your eyes & saying, “Gen, have you looked at your Poupée closet lately? You have over 500 items! Truth be told, I don’t own much of that stuff anymore. Every time I do laundry, I make a point to take out a few things I’ve washed & put them in a bag for the local thrift store. Every time I go through a random box of random crap, I make a point to either throw some of it out and/or give some of it away. Slowly but surely, I have drastically skimmed down my wardrobe and belongings.
It makes me feel clean and new to give away/ throw out stuff I hardly use anymore. I feel like there’s less sludge in my veins. It makes me feel cleaner to pay off $150 of a credit card instead of going to the Japanese store and buying over $70 USD of magazines (which I admit I’ve done!
)
